Hunters & Disciples
I was honoured to be invited to dine as a guest at Hunters & Disciples.
Hunters & Disciples is a unique cafe that offers real world work experience for students at Serve it Up and Melbourne College of Further Education, and works as a base for employers to scout prospective staff. The cafe is quite hidden with the entrance being a driveway located to the side of Valiant, however it's only about a 5min walk from North Melbourne station. The menu has an offering of classic cafe dishes.
BRUSCHETTA - poached eggs, mushroom, feta, avo
I was immediately impressed with the plating of the dishes and the flavours did not disappoint. The components of the dish were prepared well. Mushrooms were seasoned and very juicy large cuts. The bruschetta was drizzled with oil, egg was poached well with no vinegary after taste. Good standard for basic breakfast.
SMASHED AVO - poached egg, avo, feta
The bread was toasted and buttered, and the smashed avo was not over-processed with chunks still present. The peas and pumpkin seeds added extra texture to the dish.
Overall because the effort was put into each ingredient for the dish the flavours never felt flat. The price for the food is also very cheap compared to many cafes. It would be an excellent cafe for the locals.
P.S. The coffee was also great!
