Monou Japanese Restaurant

Monou is run by the same team as Kuu Cafe, which is one of my all time favourite Japanese cafes in Melbourne. The interior is typical of the buildings in old Melbourne suburbs and had a very cosy feel.

CHICKEN KARA-AGE SKEWER $8
A delicious juicy starter which gave us a sample of what's to come.

NASU DENGAKU $15
The eggplant had a film like fried coating, it would have been nice to have more sauce as I like to drown my eggplant in it.

MONOU SIGNATURE - KOBORE CHIRASHI $29
Kobore Chirashi is a variation of a sashimi dish where the sashimi pieces are scattered on the vinegared rice and overflowing in the bowl/plate. Monou's plating for this dish was a visually appealing artistic mess. The sashimi pieces were exceptionally fresh and tender, as expected of a proper Japanese eatery.

TONKATSU PANKO PORK TEISHOKU $22
Monou's tonkatsu has to be the best I've ever had in a Melbourne restaurant, being on par with the standard in Japan. The meat itself had a lot of flavour and was tender and juicy to each bite, with the coating exhibiting a light crunch. The meal comes with rice and miso soup.

I rate this experience: 5/5
