Yu Kitchen

Although Yu Kitchen serves yum cha most dishes are different from the traditional recipes, incorporating modern flavours.

The beef puff fuses wagyu beef with aromatic black truffle, creating a mild and well balanced flavour, none overpowering the other. The pastry was beautiful and evenly golden providing fine flakes with each bite
The tobiko addition to the classic Steamed Prawn Rice Roll presented a eye-opening new flavour experience, adding little bursts of saltiness to the more subdued prawn meat. The thin slices of crisp spring onion also helped add another layer of flavour. The rice roll itself was also thicker but still soft.

Chocolate Salted Egg Lava Cake with Curry Leaf ice cream was not overpoweringly sweet either. I think the filling could be stronger but that’s because I’m a sweet tooth!

The classic Crispy Roast Pork was definitely on a class of it’s own - the meat was very succulent with a light crunchy skin. It was not at all excessively oily and hands down the best I’ve had.

Finally the Mapo Tofu is indescribably delicious. Throughout the strong spiciness (without leaving a bitter taste or painful burning feeling) the meat still had a distinct flavour of it’s own.
I’m definitely keen to come back and try the rest of the dishes!
I rate this experience: 5/5
