Udon Izakaya Maedaya

Review transferred to blog format:

Maedaya is an all time fave of mine, so when I saw they had opened Udon Izakaya Maedaya I was very eager to try it. The menu is more limited and seems to focus more on alcohol and small dishes, as well as maining in Udon. The tables are very small and square shaped so be careful when ordering many dishes! They offer you a basket to put your belongings in.

Wagyu Sukiyaki Udon
⭕️ Very flavoursome soup, strong mushroom flavour. The wagyu was pretty much overcooked (I left it in the boiling nabe too long) but the cuts were good and it didn’t have any chewy stringy bits. Udon was nice and soft. I would really love to have the soup with rice as well if possible.

Double Butakushi
⭕️ Tender juicy meat, quite strong soy sauce flavour.
❌ It was cold, was that meant to be?

Momo Yaki Skewer 5
⭕️ Again very tender and juicy, all the seasonings complemented well. Be careful when biting into one of these as the juices can be hot!

Taiyaki
⭕️ Crispy outer, pretty fluffy and doughy, mild sweet flavour from red bean paste.
❌ A bit oily.

Camembert Cheese
⭕️ The camembert cheese is fried which results in a crispy outer and soft melty centre, it works really well with the jam. ALWAYS have it with jam!

I was satisfied with all the dishes and didn’t leave anything behind. The camembert cheese is enough to keep me coming back.

Update 2019: This restaurant gets so busy during Friday nights, and wait time can be up to 30mins. Popularity certainly has grown!

I rate this experience: 4/5
