Tuan Tuan Chinese Brasserie
Tuan Tuan specialises in authentic Chinese cuisine, specifically Hong Kong comfort food which was inspired in the 1960s. The menu is limited but broad at the same time with a variety of signature snow buns with different fillings, recognisable appetisers of offal in soy (trust me, very delicious and satisfying to chew!), radish cake (but fried!), Hong Kong style curries, Macanese baked rice dishes, specialty noodle (which can be customised to your liking) and congee.
We started off with the Signature Snow Buns which was oozing with salted egg filling, leaning towards the sweeter spectrum. The bun itself was quite delicate, but not hard and crunchy, and broke apart easily too.
The Deep Fried Radish Cake is a familiar dish in yum cha trolleys but with a twist. Deep frying it provided a delicate crispy outer resulting in an exceptionally smooth inner paste. A small amount of XO sauce and fried shallots served on top certainly packed a punch!
I was looking forward to the Soyed Mixed Offals and while it is expected to be chewy, I did find that the tripe texture was a bit too much. However the other offal parts were not bad. The soy sauce used was only faintly salty.
The Malay Laksa Fish noodle soup contained tofu, fish balls and prawn, and is also served with house special fried chicken wings and your choice of drink. The soup had a smooth milky texture with a mild spiciness, however not much depth in the flavour. The noodle was nice and firm.
I haven’t eaten a lot of the traditional congee combinations before, as growing up my Mum would come up with her own recipes. I found the Pork Meatball and Liver congee base itself to be quite bland with much of the flavour relying on the meats and offal. The spring onion added a bit of depth and the congee was also very silky smooth.
I added the Soy Mixed Offal from earlier into the bowl and it helped customise it to my liking!
The Fried Milk Bread was absolutely amazing, the inner was fluffy with a stark contrast to the extremely crunchy and airy outer. It is served with condensed milk, a match made in Heaven!
Coconut Milk Jelly bunnies with sesame eyes, so cute and a great way to end the feast!
Very fancy Osmanthus Jelly with wolfberries!
As well as a delicious menu the space is also very relaxing and modern.
I would definitely love to come back to experience more dishes, especially the signature snow buns.
I rate this experience: 4/5
