Now & Then Cafe - Kew

The Lobster Benedict was simply put, delicious! The lobster meat was poached giving it a soft texture, and the natural flavour was highlighted with olive oil, pairing well with the fluffy and buttery brioche. The hollaindaise sauce was silky as advertised and the creamy flavour contrasted well with the beetroot hummus. The perfectly poached egg with runny yolk served to add any extra layer of creamy flavour too. (However I did remove the jalapenos, as it would be too spicy for me!)

The Blueberry Hotcakes had a course yet fluffy texture with blueberries in the batter, and leaned towards a cake rather than a pancake. It was drenched with maple syrup and topped with gelato which added moisture to contrast any dryness, and simply dressed with some strawberries, honeycomb. It was a very humble dish and the simplicity allowed me to savour the pure flavour of the hotcake without distraction.

The American Boy burger utilised a juicy wagyu beef patty which had traces of greens in it rather than being just plain protein, with Gruyere cheese and bacon, in between a brioche bun, and topped with a single onion ring. It was overall delicious and not dry, but rather large so required cutting into smaller pieces to enjoy the components together.

The interior was bright and spacious with a "by the sea" feeling, using predominantly white on the walls and chairs, and hints of blue from vases and glass cups, not to mention the obvious large painting depicting ladies swimming in the sea. A very relaxing cafe.

I rate this experience: 4/5
